Oppgåve B, 06.03.12

Mikal satt der på bussen og tenkte. Tenkte på livet og alle andre store spørsmål her i verden. Imens iPod-en hans begynte og spella av det rolige fløytespillet i «Stairway to Heaven» av Led Zeppelin. Han lukka auga og slappa av før Jimmy Page tok til og spela gitarsoloen nok ein gong. Da Mikal opna augo igjen var han allereie to stopp forbi der han skulla av. No var det heller ikkje lenger Led Zeppelin som fortrylla ørane hans, no hadde Franz Ferdinand akkurat begynt og spela på refrenget til «Take Me Out». Han skunda seg av bussen og begynte å gå heimover. På vegen spelte han nokre MUSE songar, for at han skulle gå fortare. Da han var heime, oppdaga han at han var aleine. Fantastisk tenkte han før han gjekk på rommet sitt, lukka døra, og spelte av «Con te Partiro» på høgtalarane. Sjølv om han ikkje likte opera så gått, var det noko med den songen som gjorde at han ble rolig til sinns. No kunne han slappe av, og imens Andrea Bocelli for andre gong song «Con te Partiro» gløymte Mikal alt stress og vonde ting her i verden. Skolen var bare eit gamalt minne. Så sovna Mikal for andre gong i dag.

Sports: A Passion

I absolutely, wholeheartedly love sports, and thus I have always done. There is nothing that has consumed more time in my daily life through the years than sports. Watching sports, reading about sports in the newspaper, and also doing sports myself. Among the different kinds of sports, the ones I love the most must be Football, American Football, Handball, and last but definitely not least; Taekwon-Do. Handball is maybe the most exciting team sport for a Norwegian to watch, though mostly because we are actually good at it. The difference between handball, and say, skiing. Is that handball is a team sport, and my experiences tell me that team sports are generally more fun to watch, the only exception for me being Taekwon-Do. I have practiced Taekwon-Do for seven and a half years now, and I have almost reached my ultimate goal: Getting the black belt. Although I am definitely not planning to quit Taekwon-Do when I get it. I want to continue with Taekwon-Do for as long as I can, because it is a great sport. Not only is it fun to practice, but it has such an amazing culture around it. I have never thought that I would be fighting a guy in the ring, beating and being beat, and then the next second, we would be best friends. It is a feeling that I want to preserve, and be able to feel for the rest of my life. Football is kind of obvious, everyone loves football. My favorite sports moment is also from this sport. I will never forget being at Lerkendal when Rosenborg beat Valencia 2-0 for the second time in Champions League. My interest for American Football developed during my stay in the USA. Although I like many other American sports like Ice Hockey, Basketball, and so forth, this sport really caught my eye. Being a nice mix between some violence and tactics it is very fun both to watch and play. 

Why I like «The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime

There are many reasons to like this book. But the main reason I like it is because it has many interesting factors that may be relevant to autism. First of all because the book is written in such a way that it is supposed to give you insight into how people with autism think. In the book, the author uses very few metaphors, similes, and hyperboles. This is because Christopher, as an autistic person, does not understand things like these. He takes their meanings literally, and therefore do not understand their true meaning. However, the Christopher tries using these sometimes in the book, but it does not work out very well. Therefore, when one read this, one starts to understand the mindset of people who struggle with autism. Like how they do not understand these simple things like metaphors and especially facial expressions. Another thing that makes me sympathies with people with autism is that they do not have that filter that filters away unimportant things around you. Especially in a serious case like Christopher’s. I can imagine that it is extremely tiring to have to process every bit of information that comes into your brain from the outside world. An example about his from the book is when Christopher is on the train alone, he starts to explain how; when normal people see a dairy commercial with cows on it, they see exactly that. But when he sees it, he remembers exactly how many cows there were, specifically what tone of green the grass was, how many spots there were on each cow, and what their colors were. All in all, a nice little piece to give us insight in the world of people with autism. Although, I cannot say for sure that how the author portrays it is precise.

Looting in London

·         What is the difference between looting and rioting?

o   The main difference in looting and rioting is that looting does not involve as much physical violence as rioting. Instead of roaming around looking only for violence, you just smash some windows and steal clothes and other goods.

·         Define the underlined (blue) words and phrases. Also note down other words you find difficult, and find out what they mean.

o   Catalyst of unrest: Something that first sparks unrest in a society.

Consumerism: The theory of it being good to have, and that the consumers interests are the most important thing.

Lack of intervention: Too few people take action to prevent someone or something.

Opportunism: When you take advantage of an opportunity without thinking much of consequences or how you affect others.

Criminologist: One who studies crime and criminals and it’s relation to society.

High-Unemployment: Many people do not have jobs, and often can’t get jobs.

Disregard social norms: When you deliberately break social norms for personal gain.

Social Exclusion: When the minority is “cast out” or “forgot” by the majority in the society.

·         Could this happen in Trondheim? In Oslo? Why/why not?

o   No. Unemployment and crimes in general are much less common in Norway, and it is way too low for something like this to happen. The conditions for being unemployed in Norway are also very good, even though you don’t have a job you can manage fine on the welfare system.

·         What can this say about the social conditions in England? How may this be connected to the traditional class system?

o   This can be closely related to the English class system because most of the people participating probably are in the workers class, (an upper class wouldn’t need to loot) and it can tell us that the workers class is in a struggle, and that there is too few jobs for all the people in the workers class.

Travel blog to New Zealand

16th of October 2011

Today was my travel day. I have been on some pretty long flights in my life but this is the longest I have ever gone. New Zealand is approximately the most opposite country of Norway you can find. The time difference is 10 hours, and on top of that New Zealand is pretty far south. All in all the whole day was spent traveling, luckily I got some sleep at the plane so I’m not that bad.

17^th of October 2011

Today I arrived at my hotel in Wellington, the capitol of New Zealand. Wellington is on the southern tip of the northern island, which makes it an ideal place to visit both islands. Since I arrived about in the middle of the afternoon I did not have much time to do anything special, so I decided to go sightseeing around town. Since Wellington is considered one of the culture centers I, after going to the national museum, visited a local music bar to see if there was anything interesting. The bar itself was a nice place, and the people were nice too, but the music wasn’t the best I’ve heard. Greg and Diana (two people I met at the bar) said that the music isn’t exactly the best, but that they sometimes get in some really good people. Since I hadn’t decided what to do the next day, Greg and Diana decided to show me some places worth seeing.

18^th of October 2011

Today was mostly spent following Diana and Greg’s orders. We went sightseeing around the Northern Island, and went Hiking up into the mountains. On the way we saw some very good lookout ridges and I got to take some really nice pictures with my camera. I also sighted a Kiwi bird! Which has been one of the things I’ve been looking forward to the most. After a long day spent hiking and driving I got some well-deserved rest at the hotel before Greg and Diana dragged me out to town to go to a club.

19^th-21^st of October

I left Wellington for now to go look at some of the places were scenes from Lord of the Rings were shot. Some of these places were just extraordinary it’s not often I can set my eyes on such a sight. You could even see the resemblance from the movies. All tough I do feel a tad bit lonely.

22^rd of October

 After pretty much visiting all the natural sites during the last three days on the 22^nd I decided to go back to Wellington and spend my last day with Greg and Diana, since they had nothing to do at the time they were more than willing to take me out to Wellington to shop. After getting some souvenirs and some new clothes we decided to go out clubbing again, and meet some more of their friends. They were all really nice and we all had a great time.

23^rd of October

Today I spent the morning watching the finals in the Rugby world cup, it was a pretty heated game but New Zealand won it in the end. I just tried to follow the game, but my new made friends were ecstatic. Afterwards I had to say goodbye, I promised to keep contact with Greg and Diana and started making my way back home. I hope I can come back to New Zealand sometime.
